The Legacy of Imhotep I – Excerpt

This work presents a methodologically well-founded revision of the Third and Fourth Dynasties of the Old Kingdom. Its focus lies on the re-evaluation of the measurement systematics of the pyramids, the critical analysis of established reconstruction methods, and an alternative interpretation of the function of these monuments as an architecture of the king’s post-mortem deification. The argument is based on a source-critical evaluation of archaeological evidence, precise metrological analyses, and a systematic separation of evidence and interpretation. Several fundamental assumptions of previous research –particularly concerning the royal cubit and the primary funerary function – are explicitly called into question.
